Stuffed Clown For My Baby

When you have kids, after a few years it seems like you start to get a collection of stuffed animals. There are so many cute and loveable stuffed animals out there. They are a great gift for almost anyone or any occasion. One time when visiting relatives, they gave my first-born baby a little stuffed clown. It was cute but nothing out of the ordinary. She latched onto that little clown and was not happy when it was out of her site. She loved that thing. Her grandmother one time was at the grocery store with her. She was about 8 months old, sitting in a shopping cart. She would watch the shoppers coming in the door. As they came in she would determine which customers looked nice and then she would throw the clown on the floor. The nice shopper would pick up the clown and tell her how cute she was and she would give them a dazzling smile back in return. What a kid!! Occasionally I had to sneak the clown away to wash it. Being rather old when it was given to her, it was not long before it started to come apart at the seams. I was always sewing it together. We finally had to say "good bye" to the clown who took a trip to the dumpster.

Stuffed Tiger

It always seemed like we had way more stuffed animals then we had room for. One year our #7 son, who was then about 8 years old at the time, asked for a stuffed animal for Christmas. He said that he had never gotten one for his own. What?? How could that have happened? We had so many around the house. But, he told me; he did not have one that was his. I told myself that he was too old for a stuffed animal and that he would probably rather have something more "fun". He let me know that his hearts true desire was a stuffed animal. So, for Christmas we got him a stuffed animal. I thought that he was too old for a cute bear so I got him a stuffed tiger. He loved it. He slept with it every night. The tiger was his friend; someone that he could hug whenever he wanted too and the tiger would comfort him back. He still has that tiger today

Controlling Obesity with Vitamin Supplements

Metabolic obesity isn't a term most of us have heard of. Metabolic obese individuals are of normal weight. Their blood insulin and blood sugar levels, however, are much higher than would be expected. Metabolic obesity is probably best described as "obesity that is waiting to happen." A recent clinical study at the University of Vermont offers a good example.

Doctors examined 71 women aged 21 to 35. Of the 71 women participating in the study, 13 were found to be "metabolically obese."

The difference was not weight, although the metabolically obese women weighed slightly more (an average of 132 pounds) than the normal women (an average of 129 pounds). Neither was the difference body fat, although the metabolically obese women had a slightly higher percentage body fat, 32% compared to 27%.

The fundamental difference between the two groups of women was the ability of the body to clear sugar out of the bloodstream after a meal. The longer the body takes to return blood sugars to normal levels after eating, the worse the metabolic obesity.

Why is this important?

The body moves sugar into cells with the help of insulin. This vital hormone moves more than just sugars. It also helps cells store fat. In fact, insulin is 300 times more effective at storing fat than it is for storing sugars.

If cells resist the effects of insulin, the pancreas secretes more. Before the onset of diabetes, the extra insulin eventually gets the sugar out of the bloodstream. But the additional insulin results in storing even more fat.

The metabolic obesity that is caused by insulin resistance may be related to antioxidant deficiency.

certain foods are extremely rich in antioxidants. Dried prunes and raisins are among the most sources of antioxidants readily found in the market. Beans, blueberries, dried apricots, pomegranate juice, artichokes, Russet potatoes, pecans, walnuts, hazelnuts, ground cloves, cinnamon, and oregano are also high on the list.

The fact is, unfortunately, most of us don't eat the antioxidant-rich foods our bodies need, and, frankly, we can eat them all the time, as any one who has ever feasted on prunes can attest. The most reliable remedy for antioxidant deficiency that leads to metabolic obesity is a simple, balanced, multivitamin supplement taken every day.

Over 340 published scientific studies confirm the role of dietary and vitamin supplement antioxidants in preventing insulin resistance and metabolic obesity. Beta-carotene, vitamin C, vitamin E, and red wine catechins all provide antioxidants that prevent insulin resistance. Alpha-lipoic acid is especially useful for offsetting the insulin resistance induced by excessive consumption of fructose, the simple sugar found in corn syrup and most soft drinks and baked goods in North America.

So what's your best vitamin supplement?

As a general rule, it's best to avoid overdoses of antioxidant vitamin supplements.Very high levels of antioxidants, such as 10,000 mg of vitamin C or 3,000 IU of vitamin E every day, can alter the way your body responds to vitamins. If you abruptly stop taking a megadose of antioxidant vitamin supplement, your body will act as if you were nutritionally deficient. It is never a good idea to take megadoses of antioxidant vitamin supplements over a period of weeks or months unless you are treating a specific health condition--other than metabolic obesity--that requires them. The best way to get your "vitamin insurance" is to take a multivitamin formula. Formulas balance individual ingredients. You won't be getting your zinc without copper or your folic acid without vitamin B-6.

Is Body Jewelry Right For You?

We're not one-dimensional creatures. In fact, most of us are many things to many different people. We may be parents to our kids, helpers to our neighbors or civic groups, or good employees to our bosses. But privately or with close friends we may show a different side to our personality. That side may be more frank or assertive, boisterous or even daring. How can we maintain who we need to be while still being true to who we are inside?

Some people manage to balance their "external" lives with more private personal pleasures. That may mean reading certain types of books during free time or skydiving or learning how to drive a race car during vacation days. For others it may mean keeping small secrets like body jewelry hidden from others who may only see us as in certain roles. How can the VP of Accounting be good at her job and have a belly ring?

Whether or not body jewelry is right for your "other dimension" may be hard to determine. One of the most damaging things you could do would be to deny your personal interests. While it may not be practical to shirk your obligations and run off to start your own tattoo or body piercing store, you could easily find small ways to indulge your personal interests (like wearing body jewelry).

Exploring those personal interests - trying your hand at painting, pottery throwing, belly dancing - can help you keep your balance mentally and emotionally. A "quiet" mind can help you perform better at work and even be a better parent.

Next time you start to feel stifled by who the world "thinks" you should be, take heart. You can indulge in body jewelry or any number of other pursuits and let the real you emerge when nobody is looking (and still keep your day job).

Can a Dream Tell Us of the Future?

Much has been written regarding dreams and their meanings or purpose. Mankind has been fascinated with our dreams since the first dreamer awoke and wondered about what their visions meant. Since ancient times we have looked to our dreams to find signs of what our future holds. The first written dreams we know of were in 4000 BC.

Most people will spend about one third of their lives asleep. Our dreams are a real part of us but too often they are disregarded. Dreams can give us insight and understanding of our personal lives. They will help us to understand our past, present, and sometimes our future. All we need to do is to pay attention to our dreams and get to know them.

Dreams can hold a message for the future.

We have different types of dreams. Often our dreams consist of imagery from our most pressing thoughts and/or personal experiences. Sometimes, however, our dreams can be special. Our dreams can communicate with us if we allow them too. All we need to is listen.

I believe that there are two main types of prophetic dreams.

Those that come to us from our "deeper" self, who is much more aware of certain things than we are on a conscious level, and those who may potentially have come from an "outside" source.

Here is an example from my own dream experiences:

I dreamed of death. All I could remember from the dream was seeing a hand laying in gravels. The most noticeable thing was the ring on the hand. It was my ring. I recognized it without any doubt. Even though this was the only image I could recall from the nightmare I knew that the dream was about a death. I could feel it strongly when I woke up. I had all but forgotten the events of the dream but the emotions were still vivid.

The ring was an Army Boot Camp ring made very similar to a class ring. After I had the dream I never wore it again. Eventually I sold it to a friend of mine who had attended the same boot camp. A few years later I received a call. My friend had been murdered. He was found laying in rocks and dirt with that ring on his hand.

Did my dream forewarn me of this event? I think it is a possibility. What was the dream trying to communicate to me? I had assumed that the dream was about my death. I had also assumed that the ring was somehow a participant in my death. I stopped wearing the ring as though that would prevent the warned death. Perhaps the dream was simply telling me that my friend would die with that ring on his hand.

Whenever we have a dream that we consider to be prophetic or to have a "meaning" we are faced with the difficult task of interpreting just what the dream means. Dream Symbols most often have very definite meanings but these meanings can vary widely from one person to the next. That is why we cannot rely too much on definitions given in Dream Symbol Dictionaries.

In order to understand the meaning of the symbols within our own dreams we must come to a better and deeper understanding of ourselves. We have to learn what these symbols mean to us because that is how are dreaming mind sees them.

Anything within your dream can be a symbol. An example of a symbol in a dream is a snake. A snake can have many different meanings to different people. As with all other dream symbols they can also have a different meaning for the same person at different times in their life. You also have to look at the symbol in the context that it appeared. What other symbols were present in the dream?

The best way to gain a better understanding of what your dream symbols mean to you is to develop your own dream symbol dictionary. Keep as detailed of a dream journal as you can. Don't just write down a narrative of what occurred but record your feelings and emotions too. As you continue to write in your journal and re-read your previous entries you will begin to see parallels with your dreams and your life. Gradually you will be able to recognize what the symbols in your dreams are really saying to you.

Tips in Studying Geometry

According to van Hiele Model of Thinking in Geometry, geometry learning has 5 levels: 0 to 4. The zero (0) level is visual. Objects are reviewed based on appearance. First (1) level deals with the analysis of an object's properties and components. Second (2) level is the informal logical deduction of the interrelation of properties. The third (3) level is deductive theorem proving. The fourth (4) level is proving theorems and postulates.

In remote cultures, solving problems in geometry is intuitive in their way of life. The Munduruku people for example have a practical understanding of geometric laws. For students in civilized places however, they perceive geometry to be hard.

Geometry is simple to understand. Always start with the basic shape properties in proving theorems and axioms. Here are some tips to help to make geometry easier to understand:

Understand the problem. Determine what is given and what is needed. Master the basic properties of shapes.

Be open-minded. There are many ways to get to the solution of the problem. Translate the problem with pictures and diagrams as illustration.

Memorize the theorems, postulates and axioms. Use flashcards whenever necessary.

Study the proper usage of a compass, protractors, squares, calculator, and ruler to create realistic diagrams.

Learning does not take place in a day. It takes continuous studying, perseverance and commitment to master the subject.

Translate theoretical problems to practical problems to better understand.

Children have a lower memory recall. It is better to teach them geometry through practical methods. Show a ball and tell them it is round. Give them a block and make them count the sides.

Create a fun yet educating experience and environment for the students/learners. Incorporate geometry in real life experiences.

Access educational online games when there is idle time. Geometry learning is made fun through "Quest for Einstein". This game involves calculations and visual coordination for problem solving.

Solve as many problems as possible for practice.
